The Roadmap Philosophy
Okay, so here's the thing about Paralives Studio — they're actually being real transparent about what's coming. We're talking everything from Early Access launch in May 2026 through a projected full release in 2028. And the best part? Their philosophy is dead simple: all future content will be free. You drop $39.99 once, and you get every update, every feature, every expansion without dropping another cent. No DLC milking here.
We're looking at a 15-person indie team funded purely by Early Access sales — and yeah, they sold 250,000+ copies in the first eight hours alone. That kind of launch gives them actual financial stability to build their vision without some corporate suit breathing down their necks about quarterly targets. The roadmap breaks down into three main phases, each hitting different parts of the game.
No Paid DLC, Ever
Developer Alex Massé straight-up confirmed it: "There will never be paid DLCs, only free updates! Even after the Early Access." They've even shut down their Patreon since the Steam launch went so well. Those initial sales are gonna keep the team going for years. Imagine that — a dev who actually delivers on "free forever."
Development Timeline
Early Access Launch
The game drops with the core package: Paramaker, Build Mode, Live Mode, careers, relationships, skills, collectibles, and Melino town. Steam Workshop support is baked in from day one too.
`n`nHotfix & Polish Phase
Bug squashing, performance tweaks, and QoL improvements across the board. The team's prioritizing stability over new features right now — smart move if you ask me. They're actually listening to player feedback before pushing more content.
`n`nFirst Major Content Update
This is the big one after they've stabilized things. Expect gardening (finally!), more build stuff, expanded career content, and some solid QoL additions. This is where EA really starts to feel like a complete game.
`n`nMajor Updates Through 2027
This is when things get spicy — pets, seasons/weather, pools, social events expansion, world-building tools. The update cadence should speed up as the team grows too. 2027 is gonna be huge for Paralives.
`n`nFull Release
The full 1.0 with everything on the roadmap implemented. And here's what I love about these devs — they said straight up they won't rush to 1.0. The game ships when it's ready, not because some marketing calendar says so.
Free Update Roadmap
Pets (Dogs, Cats, Horses)
A full pet system with adoptable dogs, cats, and horses. Each pet gets their own needs, interactions, and relationship dynamics — so yeah, you'll actually have to take care of them. Pet stores will pop up in Melino once this system goes live. Slated for 2027 and I honestly can't wait.
Seasons & Weather System
Four actual seasons that change how Melino looks and feels throughout the year. We're talking seasonal activities, weather-appropriate clothing (finally a reason to use all those wardrobe options), and temperature-based needs. Summer heatwaves, winter snow, spring rain, autumn leaves — the whole package.
Pools & Water Features
Swimming pools and some pretty advanced water mechanics coming to Build Mode. There'll be a dedicated pool tool, swimming interactions, pool parties, the works. And here's a fun detail — the devs jokingly called pools "one of the most lethal sim-deletion tools" in other games and promised they won't let your Parafolks drown as easily here lol.
Gardening System
Basic gardening as a hobby — plant seeds, water crops, harvest produce. They're considering farming and ranching too based on what the community wants. Seeds will be buyable through the Build Mode catalog. Partially landing in Q4 2026 if everything stays on track.
Vehicles (Cars & Bikes)
Driveable cars and bikes for getting around. Garages and parking spaces are getting added to Build Mode too. This is gonna completely change how you explore Melino and travel between districts — no more walking everywhere like it's a simulator from 2004.
Houseboats
Waterfront living with drivable houseboats. Yeah, you read that right — another unique Build Mode addition where you can literally live on the water. Comes with dedicated dock infrastructure and boat mechanics. The build possibilities here are insane.
Ponds & Lakes
Terrain tools for making natural-looking water features — ponds, small lakes, streams. These will hook into the swimming/water system when that drops. Mostly a Build Mode thing, but it's gonna make landscaping way more interesting.
Live Mode Updates
Social Events System
A major upgrade to social events beyond what we have now with Town Events. Think customizable parties, celebrations, community gatherings — you'll be able to host your own events and invite other Parafolks over. Finally a reason to actually use all that party furniture.
Family Menu & Parenting
Better family management tools including a dedicated family menu for tracking household members, family trees, and actual parenting mechanics. Way more depth if you're into running those multi-generational households like I am.
Secrets & Hidden Content
The roadmap teases "secrets and more" for Live Mode and social events. The devs have hinted at hidden gameplay stuff that rewards exploration and curiosity. You know I'm gonna be hunting for every single one of these on day one.
Calendar & Holiday System
An organized calendar for tracking events, birthdays, work schedules — and based on community requests, you'll be able to create your own custom holidays too. Yeah, you can finally make up your own in-game celebrations. The community's been asking for this forever.
Autonomy Improvements
The team openly admitted that Parafolk autonomy needs "more love, more balancing, and especially more content." It's a priority fix during EA with patches coming through 2026. If you've been frustrated by your Parafolks standing around doing nothing — they hear you.
Build Mode Updates
Advanced Roof Tools
Massive roof customization incoming — multiple styles, dormers, turrets, pitch controls. The current roof system is pretty basic (let's be real), but the advanced version is gonna rival actual architectural software. Builder folks are gonna lose their minds over this.
Garages & Parking Spaces
Dedicated garage building tools that tie into the vehicle system. Park your cars, store bikes, make actual functional garage spaces as part of your home builds. No more pretending a room is a garage — it'll actually work like one.
World Editor
Edit the base world of Melino itself — not just your own lot. Reshape terrain, add new areas, customize community spaces. This is the ultimate tool for anyone who wants total creative control over the game world. It's basically sandbox mode for the entire town.
More Objects, Furniture & Decor
The catalog's gonna keep growing throughout EA with new furniture, build objects, decor items, and themed content. Plus Workshop mods will fill in whatever gaps the official stuff leaves. Between official updates and community content, you're never gonna run out of things to build with.
Windows & Doors on Curved Walls
Yeah, right now you can't put windows or doors on curved walls — it's a known limitation at launch and kinda annoying. The team confirmed they're fixing this during EA so we can finally do fully curved exterior designs without working around it.
Basements
Underground build spaces that go below the lot surface. Currently listed as "planned terrain feature" but when combined with pools, garages, and world editing? This completes the full architectural toolkit. Secret lair builders, your time is coming.
What to Expect from Early Access
- Regular updates: The team's planning consistent patches throughout the hotfix phase, with bigger content drops every few months. You're not gonna be left in the dark for months at a time.
- Community-driven: Player feedback actually shapes what they prioritize. They're actively watching forums, Reddit, and Steam discussions. Your complaints on Reddit might actually change something — wild concept, I know.
- No rush to 1.0: The studio explicitly said they won't call it 1.0 until the game is actually ready. No forced deadlines, no rushing out a broken product.
- Language expansion: 8 languages supported at launch, and more coming based on community translation contributions. The global community's already helping localize the game which is pretty cool.
- Console consideration: Nothing officially confirmed yet, but the team's dropped hints about possible console ports after 1.0. Cross your fingers if you're a console player.
Staying Updated: Follow the official Paralives Steam page and check their Notion roadmap doc for the latest feature status. The roadmap shifts based on player feedback and dev realities, so things can change. That's EA life, baby.
